don't blame me, I voted for McCain
Just got wind that the 2010 Defense Authorization Act is now law - the act calls for a 3.4% across-the-board increase in military basic pay over 2009 rates. Awesome…except it sucks to also learn that although this rate of increase was consistently advocated by President Bush in the past, “President” Barrack Obama lobbied for only a 2.9% increase in basic pay during his first year in office, which...
Praise the Lord!
This email was sent out by my recruiter regarding new a cell phone policy put into place this month - looks like we get more communication than previously allowed!
Cell Phone Use in Basic Military Training (BMT) (as of January 2010) During the 8.5 weeks while your loved one is at BMT, he/she will be authorized to use his/her cell phone to make outgoing calls to family members. Trainees are...
casa 1.5 continued...
Long story short, we got Disqus on the new site - it deleted the comments from our old site (sorry!) but here it is.
LAND of the free and home of the brave
I received an email with this picture of this Army soldier in Iraq with his tiny ‘plot’ of grass in front of his tent. He is a soldier stationed in Iraq, stationed in a big sand box. He asked his wife to send him dirt (U.S. soil), fertilizer, and some grass seed so that he can have the sweet aroma, and feel the grass grow beneath his feet. When the men of the squadron have a mission that they are...
casa 1.5
Welcome to the new digs. After hours of failed coding in the old format, this one will hopefully bring good news for decades to come.
drop and give me 20
Sam has been working really hard to get ready for Basic Training - he has always been able to complete the requirements, but wants to be as well prepared as he can be. Dob has been a big help setting him up at the gym & with a protein mix that seems to be doing a great job. Even Captain Jack was helping him work out the other night :)
happy 38th birthday, Dob
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Dob :) Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks for all you have done for us!
into the grind.
Admittedly, I have not been working out as extensively as I should have been the past couple of months. Even with a free, “personal” gym at the P-ville fire/rescue station, I still neglected to go more than about twice a week. But now, in the wake of a decision by the station to prohibit gym use by guests, and even kin of the president of the safety committee (I know you tried Dob),...
sanctity of life
Yesterday (Sunday, January 17th) was Sanctity of Life Sunday - a time to reflect on the miracle of life, God’s purpose & plan, and the horrors of abortion along with what we all could be doing about it…this week I will get the ball rolling on volunteering with Life Line, now known as 1st Choice Women’s Health Center. This non-profit, pro-life, faith-driven (FREE!) crisis...
one step closer
Tonight Sam decided to shave off as much of his hair that he can stand to lose to see what it will be like (sort of) & “shave off” some time from his morning routine while he’s at it…
sorry, Julie & Dob!

new pastor for HBC
Our church, Hamilton Baptist, has been without a permanent pastor since our beloved Pastor Chris Walker and his family moved on to another church family early last year (2009). Pastor Chris (a Liberty University alumnus, represent!) is a great man of God, he married us in 2007, and is still missed to this day. Our biggest prayer for our church after he left was that we would all remember that this...
just fyi
For anyone out there who is keeping up with this, we heard from my youngest brother, Jared, today. He is an E-3 Airman First Class stationed in Germany. He has been there a year now and has one more to go…we haven’t seen him since last January. He is working hard to finish his final “exam” to be able to apply for leave for March. Please keep that in your prayers! Also, his...
new year, same corporate egg shells to walk on
Hope errbody had a good new year. I have had an unexpectedly awesome holiday break of about 10 days, and as I go back to work tomorrow I want to ask for prayer that my job will still be there through the next 3 months. The best situation would be for me to continue through 3/31, or even half that long. But I have no idea what this “new” economic environment will bring and what the prez...
