fire drills never looked so good...
There is nothing quite like being ordered to stay indoors while a “Live Shooter” announcement is heard sounding off across the base in the middle of an otherwise calm afternoon, preceded by special forces sweeping the neighborhood and followed by ambulance drive-bys and medical personnel response drills down the streets - oh and top that off with the wind blowing the tops of the...

still got it
Yesterday was my first real life Air Force Physical Training (PT) test. I’m proud to report that after a lot less working out and running than should be necessary over the last few months, I still dominate. 60 push-ups, 58 sit-ups in a minute and a 1.5 mile run in 11:28 - thanks to somebody who decided it was safe to run outside in 35 degree and windy conditions. Added a minute to my jog but...

Air Force to Sam: Sorry you're so manly
In light of a recent issue with my 10am shadow, I went to the clinic today to try to get a Shaving Waiver. Waivers of this type are normally reserved for Airmen who get frequent razor bumps as a result of shaving in any capacity. In my case, it was simply to have written confirmation that, “Why yes, I did shave 2 hours ago. Thanks for noticing.” To my dismay, upon a careful Flight...

carotherseseses in one place
It’s official… for the first time since the last Carothers wedding, all 4 of Stuart Carothers’ dashingly handsome sons will be together in the same house, including wives and children, just before Christmas. Thanks to Dad and family for giving up his only 2 days off and choosing to spend them with the boys in Virginia! This will truly be awesome.

all give some, some give all
I saw this on my aunt’s facebook and I think it’s a wonderful idea! “When filling out your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address: A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20307-5001. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful, special...

Officer Qualifying Test
I have a big prayer request: One of the things on my list to apply for Officer Training School is the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT). I have signed up to take it on January 4, so that I can get it out of the way before I start my initial training on JSTARS. This is basically like a military SAT and will determine whether I’m able to continue being a flyer as an officer or even...

"I'll be home for Christmas"
Praise the Lord, Sam came home for lunch today with his official leave papers in hand for the Christmas holiday! We will be in Pville from December 20th until about the 29th. This will be Sam’s last time at home for many months to come so we’re going to squeeze out as much time as we can!

Last night’s The Sing Off was AWESOME (particularly the last group who openly claim to be Christian and got the best review of the night!) It’s a must-see so here you go…

another long road ahead, but to better things
Today I had a meeting to see how many rings of fire I need to jump through to become an AF Officer, even with my degree behind me. The good thing is the degree is the hardest and longest part of the process. I don’t know the real world ratio of those who start out enlisted to those who go right to being an officer through either the AF Academy or ROTC, but out of all the officers I’ve...

hallelujah!
The washer and dryer came today! I have happily set to work washing everything we have ever owned and then some including my Airman’s flight suits and ABUs (which come with more instructions than the planes he will be flying) - we chose a newer model with no agitator in the center so his uniforms could fit. At the risk of sounding like an infomercial I’ll bring this post to an end with...
